New data on economic impact of arts and culture in region

Data from Arts & Economic Prosperity 5, the latest study of the economic impact of the nonprofit arts and culture industry from Americans for the Arts, shows that the arts pumped more than $340 million into the local Sarasota-Manatee economy in 2015.

According to a story in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune on the new report, the number of full-time arts jobs in Sarasota County grew from 4,479 to 7,445 between 2010 and 2015. Additionally, event-related spending by Sarasota audiences nearly doubled to $93 million. The overall economic impact of arts and culture organizations in Sarasota County was $295 million. The numbers put Sarasota County in the top half of similar-sized communities included in the survey, noted the paper.

Manatee County arts, culture, and heritage nonprofits, meanwhile, generated $47 million in economic activity and supported the equivalent of 1,260 full-time jobs, according to a story in the Bradenton Herald.
