New law provides boost for mental health care

Thursday, December 15, 2016
A new federal law strengthens mental health funding for young people and workers. The 21st Century Cures Act encourages states to ensure greater parity between funding for mental health and physical health, with an emphasis toward early intervention.

That intervention not only provides for psychoanalysis and drug access, but targets young people staying in college or working as they deal with their challenges. In Sarasota, Gulf Coast Community Foundation donors are leading efforts to build the new Vincent Academy (open in February), emphasizing its mental-health model of “recovery through work.”
