North Port still leads region’s municipalities in population growth

Friday, June 2, 2017
Newly released Census data shows that all nine municipalities within the Sarasota-Manatee region grew in population from 205 to 2016.

North Port – the region’s largest city – led the way with 2,056 new residents, or 3.3% growth. The City of Sarasota came in second, adding just over 1,400 residents for 2.5 percent growth.

Nationally, the Census data shows cities across the South growing quickly, with much of the fastest growth in Texas, where six of the 15 fastest-growing large cities are located. In Florida, nearby cities Bonita Springs and Fort Myers made the list.
