While the gun-control issue can be particularly fraught in the US, some simple facts are clear: more than 60% of people in the US who die from guns die by suicide, according to the New York Times. Suicide is also the second-most common cause of death for Americans between 15 and 34. In our community, Sarasota's suicide rate has consistently surpassed that of the state's for several years, with the most affected populations considered to be white, males over 65 as well as veterans. There are strategies to consider that make suicide more inconvenient or difficult, in relation to guns, which are detailed in the article.
